Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Congo build 500 km cable for high-speed interconnection

Physical interconnections between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea have also been planned since September 2020. The two countries must nevertheless sign memorandums of understanding to define the regulations.
In a recent report on the digital economy, the World Bank informs that Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea are building a 500 km submarine cable. The project will allow Gabon to resell international capacity to its neighbours, the cable starting point being located in this State.
Additional interconnections will increase the potential clientele of the national operators of the 4 countries for international access, informs Investir au Cameroun . Developing the IXP (physical infrastructure allowing Internet service providers to exchange traffic) towards its optimal potential will contribute to improving the quality of online services at local and regional levels. This is a determining factor for e-government services.
The World Bank specifies that in May 2019, the physical interconnection with the Congolese Republic became operational, but is not yet commercialized, as it awaits the approval of the national regulators of the two countries.
