Angola to invest $89 million in national cloud infrastructure

The Angolan government will invest $89 million to build national cloud infrastructure, train technicians, store and unify government services. This was announced Thursday, February 16, by Mário de Oliveira (photo), the Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, during the official launch of the national project for the implementation of the country’s cloud infrastructure.
“ It is a unified government cloud built on government data centers to provide more than 80 services , ” said Mário de Oliveira, noting that the project also includes the migration of existing applications and the implementation of new ones. applications for the unified government cloud.
According to the director of the National Institute for the Promotion of the Information Society (INFOSI), André Pedro, the project involves the construction of two data centers. Said data centers will occupy an area of 5,320 square meters, will house 204 server cabinets, promoting cost reduction in functional machinery of government electronic communications.
This technological project will also complete the dedicated network of the Angolan State, which interconnects all the ministerial departments and the National Assembly, in a fiber ring with a capacity of 50 Gb. The project should be implemented in the next 15 month and concluded between February and March 2024.
It should be noted that the project is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed in December 2021 between the Angolan government and the United Arab Emirates, operationalized between the multinational Presight and the Ministry of Telecommunications. It will be carried out by INFOSI with the assistance of the ministry.
According to Mário de Oliveira, the project aims to promote the digital development of the national economy, to bring citizens closer to government actions, to cultivate local talents in the use of ICT and cloud services, as well as to lay the foundations for digital transformation in the Angolan industry, reports the specialized media We Are Tech .
