Burkina Faso entrusts the management of its national telecom infrastructure to Bridge Fiber Solutions

Digital transformation is at the heart of the Burkinabe government’s development programs. Ouagadougou wants to rely on a robust, reliable and available digital infrastructure to achieve its objectives.
The government of Burkina Faso has chosen Bridge Fiber Solutions (BFS), a subsidiary of Telecel Faso SA, to operate and manage the country’s national telecommunications backbone. The company launched its commercial activities in Ouagadougou on Friday, March 10.
As part of its new mission, BFS is responsible for the operation and marketing of public broadband infrastructure built by the Burkinabé State. It is a 3,000 km long network that connects the 13 regions of Burkina Faso and nearly a hundred municipalities. The network also connects the land of upright men to Côte d’Ivoire, Niger and Mali.
BFS will provide telecom and other companies with various services such as capacity rental; dark fiber leasing; wavelength leasing; the rental of sheaths, as well as Internet access. It will also be able to invest in the modernization and extension of the network if necessary.
According to Aminata Zerbo-Sabané (photo, center), Minister of Digital Transition, Posts and Electronic Communications, this initiative is part of the “digitalization dynamic ” in which the Burkinabe government is engaged. The latter aims to make digital an instrument of transformation of society in order to accelerate socio-economic development.
Proper management of the national telecommunications backbone should in particular improve the quality and coverage of telecommunications and high-speed Internet services. It should also reduce communication costs and accelerate the mobile penetration rate.
“ By improving these electronic communication infrastructures, we are providing the means to ensure the economic competitiveness of our companies and to contribute to the performance of our defense and security forces in this particularly difficult context”, declared Ms Zerbo-Sabané .
