Ethiopia: the Supreme Court entrusts Ethio Telecom with the digitalization of the judicial systems of the federal courts

Ethio Telecom is the incumbent operator and leader of the Ethiopian telecoms market with 70 million subscribers. Wholly government-owned, the company is committed to working to accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation.
The incumbent operator Ethio Telecom announced on Tuesday April 4 that it had signed a partnership agreement with the Federal Supreme Court of Ethiopia. This collaboration lays the foundations for the digitization of the national judicial system.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ethio Telecom will set up an information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure equipped with a modular data center, cloud service, video surveillance, a network operations center, local and wide area networks as well as a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN). The operator will also install a fiber optic transport network linking Addis Ababa and the regional courts.
This partnership is part of the Ethiopian government’s digital transformation ambitions, including the “Digital Ethiopia 2025” plan. For Ethio Telecom, it is in line with the new “Lead” three-year development strategy unveiled in September 2022. Through this strategy, the incumbent operator undertakes to offer new solutions beyond connectivity and to work towards of digitization.
“ The completion of this infrastructure will allow the judicial services of the federal courts to be accessible, reliable; create access to information for stakeholders; easily develop, install and implement decision support systems in courts; to offer cost-effective solutions and deliver services in a timely manner; to establish transparency in the processes and thereby increase public confidence in the judicial services ,” said Ethio Telecom.
