For the moment, the Cameroonian public telecoms operator Camtel is allied with its competitors MTN and Orange to make payments for its bills and packages via mobile money.

Camtel (Cameroon Telecommunications), historic telecoms operator in Cameroon, is moving towards the launch of ”Blue Money”, its mobile money service. The public company has launched an international call for tenders to recruit a firm which will carry out the feasibility study of the “mobile financial system”, we read in a press release.

The firm must carry out all the studies necessary to ensure the feasibility of the service, more precisely marketing, technical, financial, commercial and organizational studies. The 3-month delivery will be financed by the 2023 budget for a total estimated cost of 200 million FCFA.

Initially announced for May 2023, Blue Money will arrive in an already very competitive environment where the Orange and MTN groups share market share. Camtel will have to fight to find a place there, in particular by offering more affordable prices and better quality service, indicates Investir au Cameroun.
