Angola: Unitel accelerates the extension of the coverage of its telecoms network


Unitel is the largest Angolan mobile telephone operator in terms of number of subscribers. As of December 2022, the company had 16.74 million mobile subscribers for a market share of 70.5%. 

The Angolan telecoms company Unitel announced that it has expanded the geographic coverage of its network to 77.4% of municipalities and 30.9% of communes in the country in 2023. The operator’s 5G network is available in two municipalities in the province of Benguela, a municipality in the province of Huambo and eight localities in Luanda.

“  The expansion and improvement of Unitel’s network continues to be the permanent commitment of the company, which focuses on developing the telecommunications sector in Angola and bringing Angolans together by providing products and services. high-quality services  ,” the telecom company said.

The extension of the telecoms network should allow Unitel to reach thousands of additional subscribers and increase its market share. In the mobile telephony segment, the company competes with Movicel and Africell. Launched in April 2022, the latter plans to double the number of communication towers and extend its services to four new provinces in the country in 2024. It is currently present in four provinces and aims for national coverage in 2025.

According to the latest statistics from the National Institute of Communications (INACOM), Unitel had 16.74 million mobile subscribers in December 2022 for a market share of 70.5%. Movicel and Africell had respective market shares of 25.3% and 4.2%.
