Tunisie Telecom announces Internet capacity of 2.5 terabits by the end of 2024

The Tunisian public telecommunications company Tunisie Telecom announced on Tuesday, January 9, that it will increase its connection capacity to 2.5 terabits by the end of 2024. According to Lassaad Ben Dhiab (photo), president- general director of the historic operator, this upgrade will be made possible thanks to three cables to which the company has interconnected.

This initiative is part of Tunisie Telecom’s objective to connect Tunisia to the digital world with very high speeds in a context marked by an ever-increasing demand for high-speed connectivity. The company is therefore increasing investments to strengthen its network infrastructure with an emphasis on connectivity for all, the evolution towards 5G and the development of optical fiber. It recently finalized its migration from IPv4 to IPv6.

The increase in connection capacity should not only allow Tunisie Telecom to improve the quality and coverage of the Internet for its subscribers, but also to support the Tunisian government’s digital transformation programs.

According to statistics from the National Telecommunications Authority (INT), Tunisia had 11.1 million mobile Internet subscribers in the second quarter of 2023 for a penetration rate of 93.5%. Regarding fixed Internet, the country had 1.7 million users, or 50.1% of the population.
