Paratus strengthens its telecoms infrastructure to meet growing demand for broadband

Paratus Zambia has completed the establishment of a 700km open access metropolitan fiber optic network covering ten towns in Zambia, in partnership with Meta. The infrastructure will enable the company to improve the quality and coverage of its broadband connectivity services. It will also enable it to sell wholesale services to mobile network operators and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country.
“ Our customers are already enjoying the benefits of this expanded metropolitan network and we intend to continue to leverage our infrastructure to continue to deliver world-class services to the people of Zambia. Paratus is ready to collaborate with network providers to improve their service offerings ,” said Chama Chinyanta, Head of Infrastructure at Paratus Zambia.
It was in November 2022 that Paratus Zambia signed a cooperation agreement with Meta for the construction of a metropolitan fiber optic network with an initial length of 900 km. The initiative is part of Paratus’ vision to “transform Africa through exceptional digital infrastructure and customer service”. In Zambia, the company had already invested in the construction of a data center in Lusaka.
This initiative should notably help accelerate the adoption of its mobile services in Zambia in a context of accelerated digital transformation marked by an ever-increasing demand for high-speed connectivity. According to statistics from data platform DataReportal, Zambia had 6.51 million internet users at the start of 2024 for a penetration rate of 31.2%.
Paratus Zambia could also expect an increase in its revenues thanks to revenues from its connectivity services and those from the sale of telecoms capacity to mobile operators and Internet service providers.
