Ethiopian Uni Students Clinch Third in Huawei ICT Regional Finals in Tunisia

From March 5-8, Ethiopian university students showcased their exceptional skills in the Huawei ICT Competition’s regional finals held in Tunisia, securing third place among stiff competition. Competing against 90 participants from nine countries, including Mali, Cameroon, Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, and Morocco, the Ethiopian team demonstrated their prowess in information and communications technology (ICT), a field increasingly crucial in today’s digital world.
Path to Podium
The competition, a testament to the burgeoning talent across the African continent, saw Ethiopia’s representation by three students from Addis Abeba University Science and Technology and Arbaminch University. Their journey to the podium was marked by rigorous preparation and a deep understanding of ICT principles, which they applied adeptly in the computing track category. The event was not just a competition but a vibrant exchange of ideas and innovative solutions, setting the stage for future technological advancements in the region.
For their commendable third-place finish, the students received Huawei’s latest smartphones, a gesture that underscores the importance of encouraging young talent in the field of ICT. The remaining participants were not left empty-handed, as six students were awarded Huawei tablets for their participation. Moreover, the instructors who played a pivotal role in guiding these students were also acknowledged, highlighting the collaborative effort behind this success.

Liming Ye, Huawei’s Public Relations Director, emphasized the company’s commitment to nurturing talent by providing platforms for healthy competition, knowledge exchange, and practical skill enhancement. The winning students now have the opportunity to participate in the global finals in China in 2024, where they will compete against over 20,000 students from 500 universities worldwide.
