Data center operator Raxio Group will commission its data center under construction in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) this July. This was revealed by Dominique Migisha, coordinator of the Digital Development Agency (ADN), after a visit to the work site on Friday March 29.
“The DRC aspires to the digital economy. To achieve this, we need data storage infrastructures that meet international standards. This will be a historic turning point. We are a large country, we generate a lot of data, which is the oil of tomorrow, and we are delighted to have this private partner who, ultimately, will allow the DRC to move towards digitalization in a sovereign manner,” said said Mr. Migisha.
It was in March 2021 that Raxio Group announced that it would build a neutral Tier 3 data center in Kinshasa. The initiative is part of the company’s 2019 commitment to build ten to twelve data centers across Africa to meet the growing demand for data connectivity, storage and processing. data.
According to the “Data Centers in Africa” report carried out by Oxford Business Group in October 2021, the entire continent needs 700 installations and 1,000 MW of IT capacity to fill the deficit observed there.
