Angola: ISP MSTelecom relies on the capabilities of the Angosat-2 satellite to improve its services

Internet Service Provider (ISP) MSTelecom will leverage the capabilities of the national Angosat-2 telecoms satellite to improve its broadband connectivity services in Angola. To this effect, the ISP signed a memorandum of understanding with the Angolan National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) last week. It was on the sidelines of the 2024 edition of the NewSpace Africa conference which was held in Luanda from Tuesday April 2 to Friday April 5.
Under the terms of the agreement, MSTelecom will integrate its fiber optic and microwave transmission networks into the GGPEN satellite platform. This will accelerate the ISP’s network coverage to reach more people, even those living in rural, remote and difficult-to-reach areas for conventional terrestrial networks.
This partnership is in line with Angola’s National Space Strategy. The government has set itself the objective of using satellite technology to accelerate the country’s development, notably by improving the quality and coverage of telecoms services. Several connectivity projects have been launched since the end of January 2023, the date of the start of marketing of the Angosat-2 satellite.
This partnership should help improve access to the Internet in Angola in a context of accelerated digital transformation marked by an ever-increasing demand for high-speed connectivity. According to data from the Angolan Institute of Communications (INACOM), the country had approximately 11.1 million mobile Internet users at the end of 2023 for a penetration rate of 33%.
