Artificial intelligence: China wants to collaborate with Africa to develop skills and technologies

After the China-Africa Internet Development and Cooperation Forum held earlier this month in Xiamen, China, the Chinese Cyberspace Administration (CAC) expressed its desire for partnership with the African continent in the field of AI .
The targeted areas include the application of artificial intelligence in universities and scientific research institutes in the two regions, as well as technology development and research in sectors such as cybersecurity, medicine, urban management, education, agriculture, etc. It will also involve building capacity, developing digital infrastructure and exchanging talent.
This statement comes as a debate takes place on the opportunities presented by AI for Africa, and on the content of the policies to be put in place to maintain control of it. The American think tank Brookings Institution analyzes that only 7 African countries already have a concrete national strategy in this area, without having established formal regulations.
China’s experience, which is already significantly advanced in this segment, should be used by Africa to implement the appropriate infrastructure to exploit the great potential of AI and accelerate its development. PwC’s ”Annual Global CEO Survey” report reveals that artificial intelligence has the capacity to contribute USD 15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, with USD 1.2 trillion possibly generated in Africa. .
This would represent an increase of 5.6% in African GDP by 2030.
