Djibouti: a 2nd data center to stimulate digital growth

The data center manufacturer PAIX Data Centers announced on Tuesday, May 14, that it had created a joint venture with the Sovereign Fund of Djibouti (FSD). Partnership aims to build a cloud and carrier neutral data center in Djibouti to meet growing demand in connectivity, content delivery networks, social media and computing dematerialized.
Named JIB1, the new data center will have approximately 50,000 square feet (approximately 4,645 square meters) of usable space. It will also have up to 5 megawatts of computing capacity. Commissioning of the first phase of the installation is planned for 2026.
JIB1 will strengthen Djibouti’s telecoms infrastructure in a context of accelerated digital transformation. The country is connected to ten submarine cables with three more under construction. However, it only has one data center: the Djibouti Data Center (DDC). This Tier 3 infrastructure was launched in 2013.

PAIX Djibouti will serve as a catalyst for digital inclusion and economic development, enabling businesses to unlock new opportunities and realize their full potential in the digital age ,” said Jean-André Gbarssin, Managing Director of the FSD.
