Raxio launches its 3rd African data center in Mozambique

Data center operator Raxio Group announced on Tuesday May 28 the launch of its first neutral data center in Mozambique. Called Raxio MZ1, the level 3 infrastructure is located in the Beluluane Industrial Park (MozParks), on the outskirts of Maputo, the country’s capital. It has a capacity of 0.05 MW.
“ The flagship Raxio MZ1 facility is a hub of connectivity and digital exchange, with eight of the country’s leading telecom operators and connectivity providers already signed on. The delivery of this exceptional facility is a testament to our capabilities and commitment to providing our customers in Mozambique with the world-class infrastructure their businesses require ,” said Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group.
In September 2022, Raxio Group launched construction work on its data center in Mozambique. The initiative is part of the company’s commitment in 2019 to build around ten data centers across Africa to meet growing demand on the continent.
To finance these projects, the company raised, in October 2022, $46 million in equity from its shareholders Roha and Meridiam. In January 2023, it obtained funding of $170 million from Proparco and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF). It is also negotiating financing of 100 million from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Raxio MZ1 becomes the third data center operated by Raxio in Africa after those in Uganda and Ethiopia. The company also has facilities under construction in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Ivory Coast and Angola.
