Orange: Announced strengthening of the capacities of the digital content distribution network in Africa

The Orange-Synamedia alliance strengthens the efficiency of Orange’s 25 points of presence in Africa and addresses the challenges of latency and connection quality for users.
French telecommunications group Orange has positioned itself to consolidate its role as a major provider of Content Delivery Network (CDN) services on the African continent. At the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) recently held in Amsterdam, its executives presented the integration of its Content Delivery Boost solution with British company Synamedia’s Quortex Switch tool for its markets in Africa and the Middle East.
In a joint statement released on September 10, it was stated that “the Quortex Switch SaaS solution simplifies the design of multi-CDN systems while facilitating low-latency, high-quality delivery and disaster recovery if necessary. It uses traffic balancing and intelligent content delivery to dynamically route end users to the best content sources. They also allow CDN switching midstream for an uninterrupted viewing experience . “
Orange already has a strong CDN presence in Africa, with 25 operational points of presence. The group plans to add three more in Algeria, South Sudan, and Ethiopia, where it has recently entered the market. In total, this system relies on more than 200 CDN nodes integrated into the group’s global network, ensuring high quality of service.
“Thanks to our extensive IP network and edge capabilities, the CDB platform optimizes the delivery of various content – videos, applications, websites – by offering speed, security and end-to-end connectivity. It is directly integrated into Orange’s telecom infrastructure to guarantee superior performance on all devices ,” the group added.
The market potential is considerable. According to IndexBox data, the African video terminal industry will reach a value of USD 54 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow by a further USD 16 billion by 2035. Countries such as Egypt, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cameroon—where Orange has a strong presence—are driving much of this growth. More than 40% of video streams in the region still experience startup delays of more than five seconds, which makes the current solution proposed by Orange and its partner Synamedia
