Orange Tunisia welcomes the new MEDUSA submarine cable

Orange Tunisia and Medusa Submarine Cable System announce the landing of the MEDUSA submarine cable in Bizerte, marking a decisive step for strengthening Tunisia’s digital connectivity and its integration into the global digital economy.
Tunisia has become the first country on the African continent to host the MEDUSA cable , a strategic infrastructure that will eventually connect thirteen countries in North Africa, Southern Europe, and the Middle East . Stretching over 8,000 km , the MEDUSA system is the largest submarine fiber optic network in the Mediterranean . It will directly connect Tunisia to Marseille , where the cable landed on October 8th , before continuing its deployment to other Mediterranean countries.
The Tunisian section extends over 1,040 km and will offer Orange Tunisia a maximum capacity of 24 Tbps . The operator will own and manage the Bizerte landing station , including all associated technical infrastructure, thus reinforcing Tunisia’s role as a strategic digital hub in the Mediterranean.
Supported by the European Union , through the Connecting Europe Facility – Digital, and by the European Investment Bank , as part of the implementation of the Global Gateway strategy , the MEDUSA project aims to strengthen digital infrastructures linking Europe and Africa.
For the European Union , these infrastructures are essential to better integrate Tunisia into European markets and research hubs, strengthen digital sovereignty and network resilience, while promoting the digital inclusion of populations .
A cable landing ceremony attended by high-ranking officials
The official inauguration took place in Bizerte in the presence of:

- Francisco Javier Puig Saura, Ambassador of Spain,
