Ethio telecom Brings High-Speed Internet to Dozens More Ethiopian Communities

Ethio telecom has rolled out 4G LTE coverage to 52 new towns across Ethiopia, broadening high-speed mobile internet access to communities in regions including Oromia, Amhara, Southern Ethiopia, Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz, Harari, Somali, Tigray, and Afar.
Oromia and Amhara account for the bulk of the newly connected towns, making up roughly two-thirds of the expansion, while smaller additions were made in Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz, Somali, and Afar.
The rollout is part of a broader push to close the connectivity gap between Ethiopia’s major cities and its more remote areas. It reflects an ongoing commitment to reaching both densely populated areas and historically underserved communities as part of wider national digital inclusion goals.
The expansion comes during an accelerated phase of network modernization at Ethio telecom, which has been undertaking multiple LTE upgrade projects in recent years to improve broadband reach and service quality across the country.
Rising demand for mobile payments, e-commerce, online education, and digital government services is fueling the need for reliable connectivity beyond Ethiopia’s urban hubs—and improved LTE access is expected to support these services while deepening digital participation in newly connected communities.
