On Wednesday, October 28, Ethiopia announced the launch of an official national branding website, accessible through its government portal. The platform showcases the country’s key strengths and outlines its ambitions on the international stage.

The website highlights Ethiopia’s position as the birthplace of coffee, its cultural heritage, the Green Legacy reforestation initiative, its renewable energy resources and Addis Ababa’s urban transformation.

It also promotes Ethiopia’s historical role in Pan-Africanism, its sporting achievements and preparations to host the COP32 climate summit in 2027. Through the platform, the government aims to strengthen the country’s international visibility and reach a broader audience.

Tourism as a Key Promotional Priority

The initiative comes as Ethiopia places tourism at the center of its international promotion strategy.

According to Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa, Ethiopia welcomed more than 1.6 million foreign visitors during Ethiopian fiscal year 2018, which ended in 2026. The sector generated more than $5 billion in revenue over the period.

Visitor arrivals increased by more than 300,000 compared with the previous fiscal year, while foreign exchange earnings rose by over 21%, according to figures released by the Tourism Ministry.

The new website builds on Ethiopia’s existing digital tourism promotion initiatives.

In July 2025, the Ministry of Tourism and the Information Network Security Administration launched Visit Ethiopia, a digital platform designed to showcase the country’s tourist destinations and services.

The platform includes a chatbot and allows visitors to search for information about destinations and tourism service providers.

However, the new national branding website takes a broader approach. It combines cultural heritage, economic development, environmental initiatives and diplomatic ambitions to promote Ethiopia’s international profile beyond tourism alone.
