Africa Data Centers announces the construction of its first data center in Rwanda

Competition is getting stronger and stronger in the growing African data center market. Local and foreign companies are increasing investments in infrastructure to meet the growing demand for cloud service on the continent.
Africa Data Centers (ADC), the subsidiary of Cassava Technologies Group specializing in the construction and operation of data centers announced on Monday, November 28, the construction of its first data center in Kigali, Rwanda. With a capacity of 2 MW, this infrastructure should be commissioned in the first quarter of 2023 in order to meet the growing demand for colocation services in the country.
“ Our decision to build a data center in Kigali was an easy one, given Rwanda’s robust economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the Government of Rwanda’s focus on digital transformation, ” said Tesh Durvasula, CEO of Africa Data Centres.
The construction of the Kigali data center is part of Africa Data Centers’ African expansion strategy in a context marked by the acceleration of digital transformation on the continent. In September 2021, the company announced an investment of USD 500 million over two years to build 10 data centers in ten African countries.
Once completed, ADC’s data center in Kigali should enable the company to strengthen its ecosystem on the continent as competition increases in a growing market with the presence of companies like Huawei, Google, Microsoft, Teraco , OADC, Raxio, Amazon… It should also provide much-needed colocation capacity to local Rwandan, regional and international businesses while ensuring better internet connectivity at lower costs.
