Kenya and Tanzania Deepen Regulatory Ties on Satellite Communications and LEO Services

Kenya and Tanzania are strengthening regulatory cooperation on satellite communications, with the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) carrying out a two-day benchmarking visit to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
The visit centers on exchanging experiences and best practices in regulating satellite communications, with a particular focus on low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite services. Discussions will span regulatory and licensing frameworks, spectrum management, compliance mechanisms, and emerging policy questions around integrating satellite broadband into national telecom ecosystems.
The engagement comes at a time when LEO satellite constellations increasingly operate across national borders, turning interference management into a shared responsibility among regulators. Regional benchmarking gives regulators a chance to compare policy approaches, reduce the risks tied to isolated national decisions, and strengthen coordination on cross-border interference management and enforcement.
Both regulators are also using the visit to exchange practical insights on how regulatory frameworks can keep pace with a fast-evolving satellite communications sector.
